9/28/2015 0 Comments Wellness dayOne week has passed since the Wellness Day at the Yacht Club Exmouth., Thanks to Kylie from Journey into Yoga for getting everyone together in one place to promote Health and well being in our community. The day was jam packed with Pilates, yoga and meditation classes as well a dream catcher workshop. We were entertained by local musicians playing flutes, harps and a PanArt Hang (drum) hand pan I have attached a link so you can read about and listen to the relaxing sounds of this fascinating musical instrument.
My day concluded with a Restorative Yoga class, a bunch of enthusiastic participants were lead through one of my favourite Hatha Yoga Flow sequences, focusing on opening shoulders, chest and deepening our connection with our breath and heart energy. Thanks to everyone who came along on the day, especially those who attended the Hatha Yoga Flow restorative class and everyone who stopped by my stall for a chat, it was lovely to meet you all. By the end of the day everyone was chilled out and serene. http://worldpercussion.net/instruments/panart-hang-and-handpans/ Miles of Smiles Naomi

One of the things I love about Exmouth is being able to find places where you can really get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and find peace, silence and solitude. I found when I was in the UK it was very difficult to become removed from the constant sounds and noise pollution of such a busy city. Even when I was walking the leafy bridle trails close to my brothers house, there was still that constant drone of aircraft flying overhead and the hum of traffic that drowned out the bird song and sound of the rustling leaves.
Meditating in the morning can be quite a task especially when your ears are bombarded with the early morning hum of city life. But mediation is all about choice and acceptance, and my choice was to accept that there was always going to be noises that will distract and annoy me . I was right under Gatwick's flight path and I was staying in area that was densely populated, so there was no getting away from what I call man made mechanical noises When we meditate we can chose how we let distractions affect us, what if we changed our attitude towards what is distracting us, and see the distraction as something positive rather than a nuisance. What if you imagine as another aircraft flies overhead, how lucky are those people to be flying to exotic places in the world, immediately you may be transported to somewhere you have traveled that brought you happiness and joy. When a dog barks, it may just be telling you that it's wonderful to be alive and it's the start to another great day. Just think as you sit in meditation, and you listen to the early morning hum of commuter traffic, that you in that exact moment have taken the time to start your day in a calm and peaceful way before heading into your workday. So next time you find yourself sitting on your mediation cushion, turn those annoying distractions into something positive, it will make your meditation so much more enjoyable. I will leave you with a poem I wrote FINDING SERENTIY AND SILENCE IN A NOISY WORLD I sit upon a meditation cushion It's early I am in a room Kettles whistling Aircraft roaring Traffic humming Radio's blaring iPads and iPhones beeping Car doors banging Rubbish truck breaks squeaking Bins crashing Dogs barking But I choose to be Somewhere else I don't listen to The din around But listen to The sacred mantra Of my breath Like that of a gentle breeze Or rustling leaves I silently chant So-hum So-hum So-hum Slow and deep My breath becomes Silence surrounds me Not a sound Only the sound Of the air I breathe Like that of a gentle breeze Or rustling leaves As I sit upon the earth Under a canopy of trees Be silent So-hum Be still So-hum Be serene So-hum Be calm So-hum So-hum So-hum Miles and miles of smiles 9/3/2015 2 Comments Flow into springTwo things happened last Tuesday it was the first day of spring and it was my birthday. Spring and birthdays are a time for rebirth. We should not think of ourselves as getting older on our special day or see spring as another season passing us by, but rather as an opportunity to make changes and make a fresh new start,
